Dancesport Ballroom Dances
  • Ballroom dancing or sometimes referred to as modern consists of five dances.
  • The Waltz
  • The Foxtrot
  • The Tango
  • The Quickstep
  • The Viennese Waltz

The dances are structured so that a couple can move around a dance floor in unison, a slightly more formal style than the Latin and is a little bit more tricky as you are dancing in very close proximity to your partner.

This is a great exercise for improving your coordination as you have to avoid treading on your partners toes, it will also do wonders for your confidence as you learn how to work in unison with your partner.

Regular dance classes are held every week by dance schools in your area, where you can learn how to dance under the instruction of a fully qualified dance instructor who will help you to master the technique of ballroom dancing. The other thing with ballroom dancing is that there are so may steps available that it could take you a whole lifetime to learn them all, this is what makes dancing so interesting as you will never get bored with doing the same thing.

You decide how far you wish to challenge yourself with the complexity of steps that you learn.

The main thing to remember is that people from all walks of life dance and everyone comes together with the common interest that is dance, a fantastic activity for removing social barriers.

    • The Rumba
    • The Cha Cha
    • The Samba
    • The Jive
    • The Paso Doble

The varied rythms and styles are a collection from all over the world, with rythms from Cuba, Brazil, Africa, Spain. The dances represent fun and party time, to seduction and passion.

This style has always had a greater appeal to the younger generation even from its origins and was always fround apon as being immoral

The emphasis is on you having fun, with many spin offs such as Salsa and La Rock although the core actions remain the same.

The freedom of movement is dramaticaly different to that of ballroom and has greater appeal if you are not to familliar with your partner as the body contact is not as close as ballroom.
